Jump your way across the board to claim victory.

Checkers is a classic board game that teaches logical thinking, direction, and social skills. Mixing checkers along with other flash cards, solving math problems, or even spelling words can make this a great educational experience.

Checkers in the Classroom

Checkers is fun to play as its own standalone strategy game; however, it’s also great to incorporate into other activities as well. Have students practice flash cards while they play and allow a move with each correct answer. Or, use the number of pieces remaining on the board to create math problems that students must solve before they take their next turn. By pairing traditional learning with this classic game, you’ll create a positive association between working and playing!

How to Play

Each player begins the game with 12 pieces (checkers), placed on alternating squares in the 3 rows closest to him or her. The object of the game is to capture all of your opponent's checkers or position your pieces so that your opponent has no available moves. Pieces are captured by “jumping” your piece over an opponent’s to land on a blank square on the opposite side. Basic movement is to move a checker 1 space diagonally forward. If a piece reaches the opposite end of the board that it started on, it becomes a “king.” Kings can move in any direction and can jump pieces in any direction.

Checkers comes with a 15"x15" game board, 24 checkers, and is played with 2 players ages 6 and up.
